Overview

We are currently mandated on several project management searches in the energetic materials / explosives segment.
The roles sit in plant construction and modernisation projects for propellants, explosives, and related intermediates in Germany and Austria.

All mandates are with established, compliant players in the defense supply chain and require long-term, on-site presence rather than short project hops.

Key parameters

  • Sector: energetic materials / explosives within compliant defence supply chains
  • Geography: Southern Germany and Austria (Salzburg / Upper Austria region)
  • Setup: permanent roles with long-term on-site presence, not short-term projects

Role snapshot

Across the searches, typical responsibilities include:

  • Managing brownfield and greenfield projects from basic engineering through commissioning
  • Coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams (process, E&I, civil, automation)
  • Acting as the interface to production, HSE and quality on highly regulated sites
  • Handling scheduling, planning and cost control together with project controls
  • Reporting to site management or central engineering, depending on client structure

Most projects are EPC-style or owner’s engineer setups with budgets clearly into the multi-million range.

Profile we are typically asked for

While each mandate differs, clients consistently look for:

  • Degree in chemical engineering, process engineering, mechanical engineering or comparable
  • Proven project management experience in:
    • energetic materials, propellants, explosives, or
    • chemical / pharmaceutical plants with ATEX, Seveso or COMAH context
  • Ability to work hands-on on site with production and maintenance
  • Solid German and English; additional languages are useful but not required

Experience in defense or energetics is advantageous, but not mandatory if you bring strong process safety and plant experience.

Locations & setup

Current searches focus on:

  • Southern Germany and Austria (Salzburg / Upper Austria region)
  • Hybrid arrangements are limited – these are engineering-driven, site-based roles
  • Standard permanent employment contracts (no freelance setups)

Relocation support is possible in some cases, particularly within the EU.

How to proceed

If you have a background in project management for complex process plants and are open to the energetic materials domain, you can submit your CV through the Jobs section or via direct email.

We discuss only roles aligned with your seniority and compensation expectations and will not share your profile with any client without explicit consent.
